Israel’s prolonged offensive on Gaza, now spanning 125 days, has resulted in devastating consequences, with over 11,500 Palestinian children dead and tens of thousands more injured. The situation is dire, with an average of ten Gazan children losing limbs daily, and over 1,000 children undergoing amputations since October. Due to Gaza’s strained healthcare system and severe shortages of medical supplies and personnel, many of these surgeries are conducted without anesthesia.
In response, Books for Gaza, led by Sonia Faleiro, Fatima Bhutto, and Julia Churchill, is rallying writers globally to support the Ghassan Abu Sittah Children’s Fund. This initiative aims to provide essential medical assistance to injured children by auctioning signed books, with proceeds funding transportation and comprehensive care in Lebanon. The goal is to facilitate these children’s return to their communities and help them lead normal lives.
For a £35.00 donation or more, supporters can acquire signed copies of acclaimed works like Sally Rooney’s “Beautiful World, Where Are You?”, Lauren Groff’s “The Vaster Wilds”, and many others. The initiative is nearing 80% of its £25,000 target, with hopes to exceed £100,000 by the auction’s end on February 12, as more authors contribute and readers show their support.
